About the Artist

Colin Campbell is a fine art photographer based in Halifax and Brule Shore, Nova Scotia.

Colin was born in Halifax in 1948, grew up in Montreal, and returned to Nova Scotia to attend Acadia and Dalhousie Universities. He taught high school history in the Halifax area for 28 years and then spent five years in leadership roles with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union.

Fine art photography has become Colin's vocation since retirement from public education.

“During my years growing up outside the Maritimes, I never lost the interest in and love of the sea that I had experienced as a child. I always believed I would return and live near the coast."

It was natural that when he started exploring with his camera, water became a major focus of his work.

"I am particularly fascinated with the interplay of water and land. I am a creature of the shore. The ocean to me is like the forest was for early pioneers: wild, unknown, dangerous, but strangely alluring. And when inland, I always seem to be drawn to rivers and lakes.
